Preeti Getting Stapped in "Heaven On Earth"

Preeti already bagged an award for her power-packed performance as a battered wife in 'Heaven On Earth', but Bollywood star Preity Zinta says she was humiliated when co-star Vansh Bhardwaj, who plays her abusive husband, slapped her while shooting a scene. Preeti told in an Interview that "When we were shooting the film, there was a scene where my co-star had to slap me and, of course, it was a mistake as he took one step forward and actually went smack across my face. It was the most humiliating experience of my life because everyone saw me getting slapped"

The mishap on the sets of director Deepa Mehta's film brought Preity closer to reality and made her understand the character better.

'It changed my whole perception towards my role and I realised that it's so terrible to strip a woman of her spirit. It's better to die than to let your spirit die. This film took me to another zone; it just shattered me because I am someone who would immediately stand up for myself,' she said.

Preeti says that It was the most difficult film of my career. It's also a film that completely broke my heart. I remember asking a woman, who was a victim of domestic violence and had left her husband, what the turning point in her relationship was and she said, 'I told my husband if you want to beat me, beat me in a room. But don't beat me in front of the family, 'I will do masala movies for sure, but I would like to have substance in them. I can't do just the glam chick any longer. I've been there, done that. It just doesn't inspire me any more. I have to leave that for the other girls to do.

After the bad opening of Love Story 2050, Chamku, God Tussi Great ho and Drona , she has come up with an answer in the form of Fashion. The film is running to packed houses and many have hailed it as Priyanka’s best performance till date.

Priyanka Said , “My film Fashion has released and I am very excited about it. People have responded to it very well. I am overwhelmed with the reactions from Fashion . More shows are being added and it is running full house. After long delivery priyanka is happy with her performance.

Priyanka has shown an array of emotions in Fashion through different scenes. So which was Priyanka’s favourite scene in the film? “It is a very difficult pick. There were many favourite scenes. One of the most difficult scenes for me was the first time Meghna Mathur (Priyanka’s character in Fashion ) takes drugs at the night club and whatever happens thereafter. Honestly, I have had a huge stand against drugs. I always say no to drugs. I don’t know people who take drugs also. So I did not know what happens when one takes drugs and how one behaves after taking it. I had to go just by hearsay. Madhur informed me about the reactions of taking drugs and made me speak to a couple of people he knows. That entire sequence was very difficult for me.”

With such an astonishing performance, compliments are naturally pouring in for Priyanka. So which is the best compliment that Priyanka has received till now? “I am very grateful that people have liked the film and my performance. The best compliment that I got was through an SMS which said, ‘In this decade after Rani Mukherjee in Black , your’s was the best performance.’ I thought that was a bit exaggerated but I took it as a compliment.”

Priyanka Wore 137 Costumes in Fashion

'I wear 137 costumes in 'Fashion', and it was required as my character goes through a huge journey in one-and-a-half years. And we had a lot of montages in the film, a lot of ad commercials and of course fashion shows, which is why the requirement of costumes was so high for my character,' Priyanka told IANS in an interview.

Priyanka is seen flaunting a range of clothes from designer wear, while sashaying down the ramp, to t-shirts and jeans while portraying a model's normal life.
Throwing light on her different looks in the film, she said: 'There are five changes that happen to my character in the film. When she comes from Chandigarh, she has a little bit of a small-town kind of styling, then she becomes a model... a little more polished. She then becomes very stylish and then a supermodel.

'When she loses her head, she becomes very arrogant and her make-up becomes darker and a lot more edgy. Then during her downfall, I am devoid of make- up. The resurrection portion is softer because she is scared and broken while trying to regain her self-confidence. We tried all those looks to keep different so that the character's journey looks seamless through the film.'

The year so far hasn't proved quite successful for Priyanka as all four of her releases - 'Love Story 2050', 'God Tussi Great Ho', 'Chamku' and 'Drona' - turned out to be box office duds. The actress, however, does not shy away from her failures and is optimistic about her career.
