A highly socially relevant film, ‘Paathshaala’ : SHAHID KAPOOR

Shahid Kapoor is once again ready to break his chocolate boy image. In ‘Paathshaala’, He does not play a love struck teenager but a young sensitive English teacher at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, a school which is standing on the cusp of change – where its Principal Nana Patekar fights a vain battle with the capitalist school management, which treats education system as just another business venture.

A highly socially relevant film, ‘Paathshaala’ traces the dilemma of genuine teachers and students who fight against the profit-driven management in order to save the education system from its mass commercialization.

‘Paathshaala’ in many ways mirrors our present day education system and its ills that continue producing a disillusioned race in the name of brilliance. ‘Paathshaala’ portrays the predicament of modern day schools through Saraswati Vidya Mandir, whose management hikes fee and hires top marketing company to popularise its image. However, the glitz and glamour of modern day education system does not go down well with sensitive teachers, who try to salvage the real meaning of education and safeguard the interest of students.

Shahid Kapoor and Nana Patekar are simply brilliant in their author backed roles. Meanwhile, the Shahid Kapoor-Ayesha Takia romantic angle doesn’t seem making any headway.
